Local Attractions
The Dun Laoghaire area and adjacent townlands of Dalkey and Killiney is home to many famous names such as Hugh
Leonard, Bono, Chris De Burgh, Enya, Eddy Irvine, Neil Jordan and Lisa Stansfield. Dalkey village which is within walking distance of the Ferry House is designated as a heritage town and has history dating back over 3,500 years. Both Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey have an extensive choice of excellent pubs, restaurants and retail outlets. Coastline walks are a must between Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey with such must see attractions as the James Joyce Museum, housed in the the Martello Tower in near by Sandycove, and Dun Laoghaire’s famous Harbour, Pier and Promenade.
South of Dublin, located in the Wicklow mountains is Powerscourt Castle and Estate. The building has a fine setting which looks over the tended gardens and fountains, and the view leads one’s eye directly to the famous Great Sugarloaf
Mountain, a peak resembling its name. Visitors can spend a day viewing the interior of the castle and touring the grounds, including a small Japanese Garden, and a pet cemetery.
Glendalough
Also located in Wicklow, but just a short bus journey away, is the historic monastic site of Glendalough, with remarkable preserved buildings and graves. Set in beautiful surroundings, the Monastery sits in a pleasant valley on the edge of a lake.
Hiking, archeology, history, and getting away from the business of city life is what Glendalough has to offer.
Dalkey
Dalkey is one of the wealthy suburbs of Dublin, and several celebrities have houses in this town, which is only a short drive south of the city. The town is a pretty town, but its setting is what makes it popular: many of the houses have a fine cliffside views of the sea. The island which has Martello tower and church ruin can be visited by boat. Dalkey is also well known for its cliffs which are popular with climbers.
Ferry House makes an excellent base for persuit of the following nearby activities Angling, Golf, Horse Riding, Boating, Sailing, Sandy Beach Nearby, Water Sports , Forest Park Trekingy, Hill Walking . Cycling(Bicycle Hire Nearby), Tennis, Gym( Leisure Complex Nearby) and Rock Climbing.
